no. 001 — two inks, one pass — one html file, no build

Made, not generated.

This page is its own specimen — one file, two inks, three faces, zero frameworks — set by hand and pressed to the screen the way posters used to be pressed to paper.

Three beliefs, set large.

Type is the interface.

A heavy grotesque shouts; a reading serif thinks. Bricolage at weight 800 against Newsreader at 400 — the contrast does work that decoration never can.

Ink beats glow.

Two inks on warm paper. No pure black, no pure white, no gradients — every neutral on this page is tinted toward the same orange anchor, so nothing rings synthetic.

Stillness is a feature.

Nothing animates on scroll. Focus rings appear instantly, not gradually. Every motion that communicated nothing was cut, and the ones that remain had to argue for their place.

And what we refuse.

No gradient heroes.

No card-in-card.

No invented metrics.

No template rhythm.

A screen is not paper, and this page does not pretend to be. It remembers print instead — two inks, one pass, a shift of registration where the sheet moved. The flaw is the signature: proof that a hand was here, not a template.

The proof is the page.

This paragraph makes the argument. It drops a capital, holds a measure of sixty-five characters, and keeps its figures oldstyle — 2 inks, 3 faces, 1 file — the way a well-set book does. It marks the words set with care at x-height, like a rubricator’s band. The em-dashes — these — are true em-dashes; the quotes are curly; the apostrophe is a proper one. None of it is an accident, and none of it is a framework.

Judge the work.
